Tu was our guide - despite a partly overcast sky, he gave us an insightful perspective to seeing patterns in the sky and how the Māori used these observations to predict the nature of the seasons. This in turn was important for when to plant crops.
Very good experience with the Stargazing tour, you start with a little quizz then a initiation to telescope and you finish in the hotspring ! All of this with a lot of explanations about the stars 🙂 I was in the 00h45 (or 12h45 AM) session and i've leave the center à 3h (3 AM).
For non AM/PM users, take care when you book for this session to not mix the day !
Relaxing atmosphere. I was there on a cloudy night but in the end so we started with a VR experience explaining everything about the galaxy and stars. This was perfect because when we were in the hottub the clouds drifted away and we heard more stories about the stars. The staff is very knowledgeable and had answers to all the questions. We also looked through the telescopes at the end of the night and saw a few nebulas up close. It was beautiful
We really enjoyed this experience, much more than we expected to. We did the 1:15am session and we were a bit wary about how late it was to do the thermal pools so late after the star gazing, but it exceeded our expectations. Our guide had a great personality, very knowledgeable with a bit of humor thrown in. We were lucky with clear skies and very little breeze. We learnt many things we were not a aware of, and the thermal pools later with the additional commentary and stories really made this something special and not to be forgotten. Thanks.
